Everyone’s favorite summer holiday is quickly approaching! Nothing says July 4th like BBQs, pool days, parades, and of course – fireworks! While last year most firework shows and celebrations had to be called off due to the pandemic, this year, some celebrations are able to return. Read on to see what’s happening around Atlanta this Independence Day and gather up some ideas for your Fourth of July weekend.

Peachtree Road Race

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Peachtree Road Race is back this year for the 52nd edition of this race over Fourth of July weekend. The 10-kilometer race has both in-person and virtual options available for participants, with plenty of COVID safety measures in effect. You can register to race through June 7th. Members of the Atlanta Track Club are eligible for discounted membership. You can also opt to pay a higher-cost charity entry, which will benefit Kilometer Kids, a youth program dedicated to teaching children healthy habits and goal-setting.

Piedmont Park

A laid-back day barbequing with family and friends is one of the best ways to spend the Fourth of July, and if you’re looking for a public park to host a BBQ, Piedmont Park is a perfect location. This huge urban park has plenty to do, like a huge pool and fountain, miles of trails, and bocce courts for rental. You may grill in the provided grills, just make sure to douse the coals afterward. When you’re packing the cooler for the day, remember that glass containers aren’t allowed. There are also several food options on-site if you’d rather picnic without the work of cooking. The park is open until 11 pm so you can keep the party going late!

Go to a Baseball Game

As the ultimate American pastime, baseball pairs perfectly with Independence Day! And the Atlanta Braves just happen to be playing the Miami Marlins this year at home on July 4th. The afternoon game starts at 1:20 pm and you can get seats for under $20. While Truist Park hasn’t released the details yet, there will be an Independence Day Celebration at the stadium that day. And of course, you can get a hot dog for lunch!

Centennial Olympic Park

Centennial Olympic Park typically hosts an evening party on the 4th of July! While they’ve not yet announced if the festivities will be happening this year, you’ll want to bookmark this one in case the event is allowed to happen. Previous years have featured food trucks and a DJ throughout the evening, all capped off with the biggest fireworks display in the Southeast! Even if the event has to be canceled, the park is still a fun place to spend the day for the whole family. There’s plenty of grass for picnics, cool sculptures to view, and even a Ferris wheel you can ride. The park is located walking distance from other attractions like the Georgia Aquarium, World of Coca-Cola, and the Children’s Museum of Atlanta, so you won’t run out of things to see and do.
