Everyone’s favorite summer holiday is quickly approaching! Nothing says July 4th like BBQs, pool days, parades, and fireworks! But with the country beginning to emerge from the worst of it, some celebrations are returning in the area. Read on to see what’s happening around Carnegie Hall in New York City this Independence Day and gather up some ideas for your Fourth of July weekend.

4th of July Penthouse Party

If you’re looking for an adults-only party, NYC’s largest rooftop garden, 230 5th Avenue, is hosting an all-day, 21-and-over bash. This rooftop bar has both an indoor penthouse section and an outdoor garden, with a phenomenal view of the Empire State Building.

There’s a $30 cover charge to get in, or you can reserve a table with bottle service. There’s going to be delicious BBQ food all day and then, hopefully, views of the famous Macy’s Fireworks at night (Macy’s hasn’t yet announced if the fireworks will be going ahead this summer).  The event begins at 11 am and ends at 2 am, so come ready to party!

Central Park

A laid-back day barbequing with family and friends is one of the best ways to spend the Fourth of July, and while it’s normally pretty hard to find a place to legally do that in Manhattan, Independence Day is one of only three days a year that you’re permitted to grill in Central Park! Here’s everything you need to know:

·   Grilling is allowed on July 4th only, not throughout the whole holiday weekend.

·   Grilling is not allowed at playgrounds, athletic fields, fenced-off landscapes, woodland areas, and the Conservancy Gardens.

·   You must use charcoal, not propane.

·   Stay 10 feet away from trees and structures and make sure the grill is at least three feet off the ground.

·   Dispose of coals and matches in designated red barrels.

·   If you have a group of more than 20 people, you’ll need a permit.

While you’re not grilling, there’s plenty to do in Central Park to entertain the whole family. Burn off some calories on a sports field, let the kids loose on a playground, rent a canoe in the Lake, or birdwatch in the Ramble! You can easily spend the whole day exploring the park.

Fireworks Cruise

New York City has some of the best and biggest fireworks displays in the country. But it also has a HUGE population, which means the well-known firework viewing spots get really crowded. To escape the crowds and feel like a VIP, book yourself on the July 4th Fireworks Cruise by Event Cruises NYC.

The cruise leaves from Pier 36 and goes along the East River from 7:30 to 9:30 pm. You’ll enjoy unobstructed views of the skyline and fireworks going off from multiple boroughs from either the Sky Deck or First Deck, depending on which type of admission you purchase. Food and drinks will be for sale on board.
