The holiday season is upon us! That means family time, cozy nights by the fire, baked goods…and scrambling to buy presents! But here’s an idea for you -save some time by grouping your holiday travel and holiday shopping!

If you’re traveling to New York City this holiday season and you’ll be near Hudson Yards, we’ve compiled a few local stores you absolutely must check out for your holiday gift needs. You’ll get to explore a new place, avoid the online shopping shipping wait, and best yet -by shopping small you’ll be supporting the local economy and small business owners!

The Shops & Restaurants at Hudson Yards

If you’re shopping in the Hudson Yards neighborhood, you have to start at The Shops & Restaurants at Hudson Yards. You could spend the whole day at this brand-new shopping complex, taking in all the holiday decorations, visiting the art galleries, and sampling food from the many restaurants inside. Here are a few of the independently-owned businesses inside where you can pick up holiday gifts:

·        Faherty is a family-owned clothing store who strives to make thoughtful decisions for the community and planet with their sustainable products.

·        CAMP isn’t a local-business, per se, because they have a handful of locations. But this unique toy store is a great place to spend your dollars, because it pushes eco-friendly products, outdoor experiences for kids, and encouraging girls and minorities to be anything they set their minds to.

·        If you’re shopping for new parents or a mom-to-be, Milk & Honey Babies has you covered with eco-friendly toys and clothing for babies and self-care items for their parents.

Chelsea Market

It’s true that Chelsea Market is about a 20-minute walk from the Hudson Yards, but we just couldn’t leave this shopping mecca off the list! It’s packed full of cool businesses and restaurants, and the fountains and lighting inside make for a cool, urban shopping experience. Not to mention, you can get there by taking one of the best walks in the city –the Highline! This reclaimed above-ground out-of-commission subway line is now a public park consisting of an elevated walking path surrounded by gardens and artwork.

Once you get to Chelsea Market, there’s a plethora of gift shops inside. A good shopping idea here is to put together a gift basket of yummy foods. There are a selection of local stores where you can do this, such as Spices and Tease, Saxelby Cheesemongers, Heatonist, and Dickson’s Farmstand Meats.

Whitney Museum of American Art

If you’ve already made the trek South along the Highline to Chelsea Market, then you might as well walk just 5 minutes further to the Whitney Museum of American Art. They have a gift shop right in their front lobby, and it’s a perfect place to get some holiday shopping done. You can choose from prints and posters, jewelry and apparel, books, home goods, and even educational kids’ toys and art supplies. If you want to give a little culture as a gift this season, you can further support the museum by gifting tickets or a membership.
