Things to Do for Mother’s Day in Seattle

Mother’s Day is coming up next month! The moms in our lives work so hard and give so much, so it’s important to take a day to make them feel special. Whether you’re celebrating your own mother, a step-mother, the mother of your children, or a friend who is a mom, here are some ideas of wonderful things to do with her.

Tilikum Place Café

Since Mother’s Day always falls on a Sunday, it’s traditional for many people to take their mom out for brunch. This is always a winning idea, and in Seattle, there’s no better place for brunch than Tilikum Place Café, a lovely neighborhood spot with an eclectic flair! Tilikum’s seasonal menu is inspired by European traditions and includes mouth-watering brunch food like Dutch Baby pancakes, crumpets, quiche, grilled asparagus, BLT eggs benedict, and more!

Golden Gardens Park

May is the beginning of picnic season! The weather is warming up, trees and flowers are blooming, and outdoor celebrations are a safe option during COVID-19. A great place to take your mom for a picnic locally is Golden Gardens Park. You’ll enjoy lovely panoramic views of the Puget Sound. After you’re done eating, take a hike on one of the many trails, stroll along the beach, or snap some photos with mom.

Afternoon Tea

The Fairmont Olympic Hotel is starting up its Afternoon Tea service on Saturday, May 8th. Which means Mother’s Day Weekend, you can take your mom for a delightful, English-style tea party! Hosted in their newly renovated lobby, you’ll get to drink your choice of tea from their loose-leaf selection, accompanied by an assortment of finger sandwiches, sweets, and scones. The Afternoon Tea costs $60 per person and is held between 12 and 4 pm.

Hot Tub Boats

Do you and your mom love to relax but you’ve already gone on lots of spa days? If you want something unique to do, rent a hot tub boat. Yep, you read that right. It’s a boat with a hot tub in it! It also comes with joystick navigation, bluetooth speakers, and storage space for food and drinks. You can relax in warm water while enjoying the gorgeous scenery of the sound at the same time! All the boats are built locally and according to US Coast Guard reservations for safety. The only requirement to rent one is a valid US driver’s license.

Canlis

If your mom is more of the traditional type, you might want to treat her to a classy night out. Consider  Canlis. It is a Seattle landmark, having been a fine-dining destination since the 1950s! The restaurant was nominated last year for the James Beard award for Hospitality and serves high-end Pacific Northwest style fare. If you happen to hold an American Express card, you can eat onsite by reserving one of their private yurts. Their Mother’s Day special is a fixed menu priced at $145 per guest.
