More FAQs

Public/Ground Transportation

Public Transportation is usually a much cheaper option than parking your vehicle at the airport. Because of its popularity as a regional airport, there are several excellent public transportation options to and from LEX.

1.      LexTran (Local Bus): Transit Authority of Lexington (LexTran) operates an express bus route from LEX to the downtown Transit Center on Vine Street. Buses are available Monday to Friday from 6 am to 6 pm. The fare for a single ride is $1.00, and a Day Pass is $3.00.

2.      Taxi: always an excellent transportation option to/from the airport. Taxis at LEX are available outside the baggage claim exit of the terminal. Meters typically begin at $4.50, with fares running roughly $3.50/mile. AIRPORT TAXI, Five Star Taxi, Grab, Lex Rides, Lex Taxi, and UB Cab all operate to/from LEX.

3.      Hotel Courtesy Vans: several hotels in the area offer a free shuttle service. Contact your hotel ahead of time to see if they provide this service or use the direct line courtesy telephones to the hotels located next to Baggage Claim at LEX.

Ride Sharing

Ride-Sharing apps are becoming an increasingly popular option in getting to and from airports. They are almost always cheaper than taxis while offering the same convenience of door-to-door service. Blue Grass allows both Lyft and Uber to operate.

Uber rides in Lexington are, on average, slightly more expensive than Lyft. An Uber from downtown Lexington (Main Street) to LEX would cost $20-25 for an UberX and $25-30 for an UberXL. It would take roughly 14-minutes to get to LEX from downtown.

A ride with Lyft (from the same pick-up point) would cost $15-18 for a Standard Lyft and $18-21 for an XL.

Our On Air Parking deal comes out significantly cheaper and will still provide the convenience, ease, and stress-free trip to the airport that we all want. With reserved parking, free cancellation, and free 24/7 shuttles to the airport, our parking deal of $5/day is the way to go.

On Airport Parking at Blue Grass Airport

There are two main options for parking, both short-term and long-term, at Blue Grass Airport. At this time, the Park & Shuttle Lot has closed, and Valet Parking is temporarily closed. Naturally, this limits the number of spots available within walking distance from the terminal.

1.      Short-term Parking: located directly across from the terminal in the garage and adjacent short-term uncovered lot. Spaces are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The short-term parking rates are free for the first 30 minutes, $2/30-60 minutes, $1/each additional hour, and $15/day.

2.      Long-term Parking: located behind short-term parking, the walk to/from this lot is significantly longer, but it is still within walking distance to the terminal. The rates in this lot are free for the first 30 minutes, $2/30-60 minutes, $1/each additional hour, $12/day, and $72/week.

3.      Cell Phone Waiting Area: located on the airport's main road, Terminal Drive, a free, temporary parking area for anyone picking up a passenger. Vehicles must be attended at all times.

4.      Temporarily CLOSED: Valet Parking is not being offered at LEX at this time, and the Park & Shuttle Lot has closed permanently.

Blue Grass Airport Fun Facts

A book has been written about the airport's remarkable history and its connection to central Kentucky history. It is titled "Blue Grass Airport: An American Aviation Story."

Although the airport began operating in 1940, the first commercial terminal was not completed until October 1946.

The 1964 James Bond movie "Goldfinger" mentions Blue Grass Field as the villain's plane destination.
