Public Transportation is usually a much cheaper option than parking your own vehicle at the airport. There is a small number of reliable, cheap options to/from Hilo International.
1. Public Bus (Hele-On Bus): operates Monday to Friday from 7:45 am to 4:30 pm. The Intra-Hilo Keaukaha Bus #11 connects Hilo Airport with Hilo Bay (including the Mo’oheau Bus Terminal) and downtown Keaukaha. Bus fare is $2 one-way.
2. Taxi: several taxi companies are available on demand at Hilo International Airport. Courtesy taxi phones are located curbside at the arrival area. Most taxis offer the same prices, so here are estimated costs for a few popular locations: $15-17 for Hilo Town, $30 to Pahoa, $130 for Honokaa, and $260-320 for Kailua Town.
3. Hotel Courtesy Shuttles: several hotels in the area offer a free shuttle service for their guests. Contact your hotel ahead of time to see if they offer this service and to reserve a ride to/from the airport.
The convenience of ride share apps has made them increasingly popular as an alternative means of getting to the airport. Here is a quick look at standard prices for ITO, from three different starting points.
