More FAQs

Public/Ground Transportation

Public/Ground Transportation is usually a much cheaper option than parking your own vehicle at the airport. Here is a look at the options that are available for transportation to/from MRY.

1. Taxis: several taxicab companies operate out of MRY and can easily be hailed from the airport.

2. Public Bus: Monterey Salinas Transit (MST) operates the public bus system for the Monterey, California area. Route #7 and Route #56 both make stops at Monterey Regional Airport. Route #7 also connects to the Monterey Transit Plaza where nearly all bus routes stop. Local fare is $1.50. For more information, including route schedules, visit:

3. Hotel Courtesy Shuttles: many hotels in the area offer a free shuttle service for their guests. Contact your hotel ahead of time to see if they offer this service and to reserve a ride to the airport.

Ride Sharing

The convenience of ride sharing is hard to beat, especially when traveling to an airport like MRY that services a large area of Central California. Here is a quick look at standard prices.

Prices have been calculated from two different locations, to offer insight into standard prices for traveling to MRY from the larger Monterey Bay area.

A Lyft from MRY to downtown Monterey is $12-15 for a Standard and $18-21 for an XL. The ride to Monterey takes roughly 9 minutes. The trip to/from the nearby city of Salinas would take roughly 24 minutes and would cost $28-32 for a Standard and $45-50 for an XL.

Uber prices are relatively similar. A ride to/from downtown Monterey would cost $16-19 for UberX and $21-24 for UberXL. A ride to/from Salinas would cost $31-37 for UberX and $45-54 for an UberXL.

Prices would rise significantly for anyone traveling to MRY from outside the Monterey Bay area. If notoriously high-priced airport parking lots are the reason ride share looks more appealing, it is time to try our off-airport parking option. We offer the lowest daily rate, at a safe lot within 8-minutes of MRY, with free 24/7 shuttles to/from the airport.

On Airport Parking at Monterey Regional Airport

There are three options for parking at Monterey Regional Airport – with both hourly and daily rates. However, as can be expected at an airport, the prices are steep for the convenience of their on-airport location and spaces are limited.

1. Short-term Parking (Upper Lot): the parking rates in this lot are $2/30 minutes and $24/day. Handicap parking is also available in this lot for $13/day.

2. Long-term Parking: located behind short-term parking. The rates for long-term parking are $1/hour (for the first 3 hours) and $13/day.

3. Premium Parking: in front of the terminal, parking here is free for the first 30 minutes. Then, the rates are $3/30 minutes and $24/day.
