Eppley Airfield Fun Facts

Eppley Airfield was named after Eugene Eppley, a daredevil areoplane flyer who also started a hotel empire in Ohio. In 1960, after a million-dollar donation, the airport changed its name from Omaha's American Legion Municipal Airport to Eppley Airfield.

OMA faced a significant crisis in June 2011, when all of eastern Omaha was hit by massive flooding from the Missouri River. To protect the airport, over 175,000 sandbags were used, and The President declared a state of emergency. Eppley Airfield also holds the nickname, "Home of the Jets."
