Over 52 years, over 26,500 men and women earned their wings at the Williams Air Force Base. In 1942, the military base changed its name to Williams Field to honor Charles Linton Williams, a pilot born in Arizona.
The military base closed in 1993, and the name was changed to Williams Gateway Airport in March of 1994, and then the name was changed again to Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport in 2008.
Currently, the airport hosts more than 40 companies and serves more than 45 cities with non-stop service.
