In May of 1947, the city committed $2.4 million dollars for its own share of a new terminal building for the new airport.
In 1949, the construction of the airport was approved.
The airport opened in 1952 and replaced the Shreveport Downtown Airport.
The airport continued to expand in 1971, when a new 160,000 square foot terminal was built.
In 1998, the airport had yet another expansion with an additional 66,000 square feet added to the terminal.
The new air facility allowed the airport to organize all airline ticket counters and rental cars into one operation.
