Asheville Regional Airport Fun Facts

Asheville began seeking land for a new airport in the year of 1925, which led to the airport's development. The Asheville Regional Airport began in development in 1928 and officially opened in June of 1961.

The airport started its "runway extension project" and was assisted by a large donation of 2 million dollars, by the president at the time, Jimmy Carter.

The Asheville Regional Airport was the first airport in the nation to offer in-house travel agency services to passengers in 1981.
