About Sloan's Lake

Legend has it Sloan's Lake in Denver, Colorado was formed in 1861 by a lone farmer named Thomas M. Sloan when he accidentally hit an underground aquifer by digging for irrigation. As the story goes, the lake was formed literally overnight and people came from all around to see the new body of water that had become a part of the countryside. It didn’t take too long before the body of water was called Sloan’s Lake in honor of the ignorant farmer.

Even though this lake seemed to drown any dreams of owning a farm, that didn’t stop Sloan from using the lake to his advantage. Many families in the late 1800’s were willing to pay a fee to use the lake for recreation, such as boating, swimming, even ice skating during the winter. Eventually, Sloan sold his “farm” and the city moved in.

Today, Sloan’s Lake Park is one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in Denver, complete with green grass and flowers of all colors and kinds. If you’re looking for a place to unwind from the stresses of the day, or just to relax and have a good time, Sloan’s Lake is the place to be when in town.
