About University Park

University Park in Denver, Colorado is next to Downtown, so you’re bound to enjoy some of the city's famous and vintage architecture. Downtown is the oldest part of Denver and thus boasts some of the best preserved properties in the city.

The University of Denver used to be known as the Colorado Seminary when it opened in 1864. The school was built by John Evans in an effort for local children to have higher education at their fingertips rather than needing to go back East for schooling. The school added “University of Denver” in 1880.

Soon, Downtown became more populated with brothels and bars prompting the University to look for a new campus. In 1890, they moved officially to University Park, and that’s where it has stood to this day.

Today, University Park is home to the somewhat affluent population of Denver. It remains one of the loveliest areas of Denver with plenty of grass and iconic buildings surrounding the park. Shopping and restaurants are plentiful, so if spending a day in Denver appeals, consider spending time in University Park and learn a bit of Denver’s history.
