About Van Nuys

About Van Nuys

Van Nuys is nestled in the heart of the San Fernando Valley and boasts the highest population of any other community in the valley with almost 140,000 residents. This city was founded in 1911 and was named after a developer of the city, an entrepreneur named Isaac Newton Van Nuys. Van Nuys Boulevard is a popular destination for shopping and restaurants, and hosts a bustling commercial district.

If you love the outdoor life, consider a visit to the Van Nuys Sherman Oaks Park which provides picnic tables, a children’s play area, a lighted American football field, two lighted baseball diamonds, lighted indoor - and outdoor - basketball courts, lighted tennis courts, lighted soccer field, a seasonal outdoor pool that’s heated, a 60-person community room, and so much more. The question isn’t what do they have, but what don’t they have?

Van Nuys High School is the alma mater of Marilyn Monroe and Birmingham High School, also located in Van Nuys, is where Sally Field graduated.

If you’re in town, consider a visit to the Japanese Garden on Woodley Avenue, nicknamed the “Garden of Water and Fragrance” due to several fountains, ponds, and various flora that blooms year-round. This garden is open all year, and is a marvel to anyone who walks it’s twisting pathways.
