Valentine’s Day is coming up next month, but roses, chocolate, and Hallmark cards aren’t for everyone. If you’d rather round up your best gal pals and celebrate the joys of female friendship on Galentine’s Day, read on, because we’ve rounded up five fun ways to celebrate with your girls this year in NYC!
Chef’s Table at Brooklyn Fare
If you and your gals want to be fancy, a classic way to spend the evening is dinner and drinks at a renowned restaurant. That’s tricky at the moment due to the pandemic, but one of NYC’s most accoladed restaurants is currently offering food for pickup! Chef’s Table at Brooklyn Fare has the distinction of 3 Michelin Stars, and while much of that is due to the unique experience of eating there, the cuisine also stands on its own. The tasting menu is made up of perfectly created Japanese dishes inspired by French techniques. This will be a Galentine’s Day meal you won’t soon forget!
John’s of 12th Street
If you’re looking for a more mom-and-pop type restaurant, John’s of 12th Street is the place to go. This quaint Italian restaurant is one of the most historic places to eat in the city -it opened in 1908! And even with all that history, this East Village gem manages to pair tradition with current trends by offering vegan options. Guy Fieri gave the restaurant a shout out on his show Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, especially praising their handmade meatballs and Tuscan Ragu.
If you’re trying to be safe due to COVID-19, an outdoor celebration is the way to go. How about taking a stroll around Battery Park? At this southern tip of Manhattan, you’ll be treated to wonderful views of the Statue of Liberty and get to enjoy lots of historic monuments. There are plenty of benches dotted around the park too, so you and your gals can bring coffees and snacks for a little wintry picnic!
Bury the Hatchet
If your friends aren’t content to just sit around and chat, you’re going to want an activity to get everyone moving. For a fun way to celebrate, gather your girlfriends and head to Greenpoint, Brooklyn. At Bury the Hatchet, you can get out some of that Valentine’s Day angst by hurling axes at a target! When you book a private party, you’ll get instruction from the professionals on staff to ensure that your experience is fun and safe.
If you want a unique way to celebrate Galentine’s Day and keep spirits high, take a mixology class through Apotheke! This awesome cocktail bar is offering virtual classes through Apotheke Academy at Home. Your live class will be streamed over zoom and it’s perfect for beginners and experienced cocktail makers. Once you book it, they’ll reach out to let you know what to have on hand for the big day. And, if you decide to skip the class and just drink cocktails, they do offer cocktails to go!
