If you’re looking for your next great family adventure, or someplace different to take the kids, we have you covered. Spending a day out with the kids is a great way to recapture your own childlike curiosity and love of play, so we’ve included plenty of options that will make the adults as happy as the kids. Below are some of the best, most unique, and most beloved things to do with your kids in Boston.
Mugar Omni Theater
Located inside the Museum of Science is this large, domed IMAX theater. The domed screen is five-stories high, making any film you see there a breathtaking, immersive experience. You and the kids will love being plunged into amazing stories from around the world – you’ll feel as though you’ve been transported there yourself. Visiting the Mugar Omni Theater is a great educational outing. Right now, they are showing a film on “Superpower Dogs” throughout the world who have performed great feats of bravery and saved lives.
Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum
Head onto the water to experience this incredible floating museum. You and the kids will learn about the history behind the Boston Tea Party while marveling at a full-scale replica of an 18th-century sailing vessel. This museum is particularly kid-friendly because it features live actors who will help bring history to life and keep the kids entertained. After your visit, you can even stop in for a cup of tea in Abigail’s Tea Room & Terrace.
Martin’s Park & Playground
Looking for a new playground to spend the afternoon? Martin’s Park offers a play area rooted in Boston’s nautical history. Kids can enjoy running and playing make-believe on a playground shaped like a large wooden ship. With rocks to climb below and sails to be manned on the ship, many pirate adventures are had at Martin’s Park.
Tour of Fenway Park
The Red Sox are as much a part of Boston as the Tea Party. If you have some baseball fans at home, then a tour of beloved Fenway Park can’t be missed. You’ll get a chance to see “America’s Most Beloved Ballpark” from a new perspective, including atop the fabled Green Monster. Several different types of tours are offered, including classic, hour-long Public Tours, Pregame Tours, and even Birthday Packages. I highly recommend a Pregame Tour followed by a game and some ballpark snacks (of course).
Boston Duck Tours
Take a tour along the Charles River and through the most famous sights of Boston in one of Boston Duck Tours’ colorful vehicles. The tour takes you past historical neighborhoods, landmarks, and offers gorgeous river views. You’ll start the tour on land, before hitting the water – in the same vehicle! Kids will definitely love the moment that the tour bus turns into a tour boat. And the tour leaders are wonderful at bringing history to life in an educational and fun way which will keep kids entertained the entire tour.
