Valentine’s Day is coming up next month, but roses, chocolate, and Hallmark cards aren’t for everyone. If you’d rather round up your best gal pals and celebrate the joys of female friendship on Galentine’s Day, read on, because we’ve rounded up five fun ways to celebrate with your girls this year in Columbus!
If you and your gals want to be fancy, a classic way to spend the evening is dinner and drinks at a renowned restaurant. For one of the most accoladed restaurants in Columbus, you’ll want to head to The Refectory Restaurant, which has been a staple in the city for over 40 years. The Refectory has earned 4 Diamonds from AAA, among other awards. You’ll dine in an elegant setting on classic French and contemporary American cuisine, and have your pick of over 700 selections from their wine cellar. You can either make a reservation for their dining room or order a home dinner for curbside pickup.
If you’re looking for a more mom-and-pop type restaurant, Katalina’s is the place to go. Despite the less-than-chic exterior (it’s located in a 100-year-old gas station!), Katalina’s is a cool and funky café that has been written up in The Wall Street Journal and more. They serve up lots of “local goodness” to make the best breakfast in Columbus. The down-home style food has both Latin and Southern leanings. You have to try their original pancake balls! Due to COVID-19, you can order carry-out or eat on their outdoor patio.
The Topiary Park
If you’re trying to be safe due to COVID-19, an outdoor celebration is the way to go. And even in February, a picnic is a fun way to connect with your gals. Just bring a waterproof tarp for under your picnic blanket, some cozy blankets to snuggle in, and a thermos of hot cocoa! For the best location, have your gal pals meet you at The Topiary Park. This unique, 9.2-acre public park has been featured in Atlas Obscura for its topiaries that recreate George Seurat’s A Sunday Afternoon pointillist painting! After you eat, you can take a stroll through for a closer look at the topiaries.
If your friends aren’t content to just sit around and chat, you’re going to want an activity to get everyone moving. For the more competitive girl gangs, try Bubble Soccer Ohio. This crazy sport will have you inside your own giant plastic bubbles, trying to knock each other over while you play various games. You’re sure to get your heart rate up, and maybe your adrenaline pumping too, with this one.
Level One Bar and Arcade
If you want something unique to do for Galentine’s Day, have your celebration at Level One Bar and Arcade. Inside, you’ll find tons of old-school arcade games like Frogger, Asteroids, and Pinball. Additionally, the bar has 24 craft beer selections and game-themed cocktails.
