Valentine’s Day is coming up next month, but roses, chocolate, and Hallmark cards aren’t for everyone. If you’d rather round up your best gal pals and celebrate the joys of female friendship on Galentine’s Day, read on, because we’ve rounded up five fun ways to celebrate with your girls this year near Hudson Yards!
If you and your gals want to be fancy, a classic way to spend the evening is dinner and drinks at a renowned restaurant. And while Laut may not be an extremely expensive or frilly place to eat, it does have the honor of having a Michelin Star, as well as being featured in Time Out New York, The New York Times, and more. You and your friends will love their delicious South Asian flavors and colorful menu items!
Tea & Sympathy
If you’re looking for a more mom-and-pop type restaurant, Tea & Sympathy is the place to go. This cozy British restaurant has been “serving British comfort food and proper tea” for the past 30 years. What’s more, Sarah Jessica Parker loves the restaurant! A great Galentine’s Day idea is an afternoon tea with takeout from Tea & Sympathy. You can enjoy menu items like finger sandwiches, scones with clotted cream, and assorted cakes!
If you’re trying to be safe due to COVID-19, an outdoor celebration is the way to go. How about taking a stroll along The Highline? This unique outdoor park near Hudson Yards may not be in bloom in February, but you’ll still be treated to wonderful views of the Hudson River and get to enjoy lots of fun sculptures and murals along the path. The park used to be an above ground train line, but no it’s an elevated walking path stretching just under 1.5 miles. There are benches dotted along it too, so you and your gals can bring coffees and snacks for a little wintry picnic!
Body & Pole
If your friends aren’t content to just sit around and chat, you’re going to want an activity to get everyone moving. For a fun way to celebrate, gather your girlfriends and take a class at Body & Pole. Instructors are ready to empower you by training you in Pole, Silk, and Hoop at this aerial studio. Due to COVID-19, they can’t support parties over six people inside the studio, but online parties are available.
If you want a unique way to celebrate Galentine’s Day and keep spirits high, take a mixology class through Liquid Lab! This company is taking the class art of cocktail making and putting a contemporary spin on it. And right now, they have lots of online group classes available. On February 14th, they’re offering a special Valentine’s Day class where you’ll learn to make a Sweetheart Spritz and Jalapeño Heartbreaker. You can also book a private virtual class with a group of 8 or more.
