Valentine’s Day is coming up next month, but roses, chocolate, and Hallmark cards aren’t for everyone. If you’d rather round up your best gal pals and celebrate the joys of female friendship on Galentine’s Day, read on, because we’ve rounded up five fun ways to celebrate with your girls this year in Jersey City near Journal Square!
15 Fox Place
A classic way to spend the evening is dinner and drinks at a renowned restaurant. And for a recently accoladed restaurant right off Journal Square, you’ll want to head to 15 Fox Place. This former home turned Italian eatery was a semifinalist for the 2020 James Beard Award for Hospitality. You’re in for a whole experience eating here, as it’s reservations only and there is no menu -you’ll eat whatever owner Kathryn Budinich puts in front of you!
Brownstone Diner & Pancake Factory
If you’re looking for a more mom-and-pop type restaurant, the Brownstone Diner & Pancake Factory is the place to go. It’s even been featured by Guy Fieri on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives! Breakfast and brunch are the best times to have your party here because as the name implies, their pancakes are to die for. They have cool pancake options like Turtle, Black Forest, Nuts ‘n Honey, and even Meat. Besides, a great way to pay homage to the Parks and Recreation roots of Galentine’s Day is by celebrating in a diner!
Liberty State Park
If you’re trying to be safe due to COVID-19, an outdoor celebration is the way to go. And even in February, a picnic is a fun way to connect with your gals. Just bring a waterproof tarp for under your picnic blanket, some cozy blankets to snuggle in, and a thermos of hot cocoa! For the best location, have your gal pals meet you at Liberty State Park. While you enjoy your food, you’ll be treated to jaw-dropping views of the Manhattan skyline, Statue of Liberty, and Ellis Island. There’s plenty of designated picnic areas, too, and if you have a large group, you can rent a pavilion through the park website.
If your friends aren’t content to just sit around and chat, you’re going to want an activity to get everyone moving. Bowling is a perfect one to be able to get moving and cheer each other on, with plenty of breaks to eat and catch up, too. Check out Bowl-Rite Lanes in neighboring Union City for your Galentine’s party. They have an arcade and food, too!
Alter Ego Pole Fitness
If you want something unique to do to celebrate the occasion, try taking a group pole dancing class! You’ll all bond together while getting healthy and boosting your confidence. You can book a private pole party for your group -they have a few packages of different lengths which include instruction, snacks, and a group photo. There are some COVID precautions in place, such as temperature checks at the door.
