Valentine’s Day is coming up next month, but roses, chocolate, and Hallmark cards aren’t for everyone. If you’d rather round up your best gal pals and celebrate the joys of female friendship on Galentine’s Day, read on, because we’ve rounded up five fun ways to celebrate with your girls this year in Washington DC!
If you and your gals want to be fancy, a classic way to spend the evening is dinner and drinks at a renowned restaurant. For one of the most accoladed restaurants in Washington DC, you’ll want to head to Gravitas, a new restaurant on the scene that just earned a Michelin Star! You’re sure to enjoy its locally-sourced menu items and industrial-chic design elements. If you’re trying to be careful due to the pandemic, they also offer to-go meals.
Bub and Pop’s
If you’re looking for a more mom-and-pop type restaurant, Bub and Pop’s is the place to go -it’s literally owned by a husband-and-wife team who met and fell in love as teenagers! Their hoagies, pickles, soups, and salads make the perfect takeout to feed everyone at your Galentine’s Day party. Be sure to check out the selection of beers and handcrafted cocktails, too. Guy Fieri even featured the restaurant on his show, Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives and it’s won several DC-area awards!
Meridian Hill Park
If you’re trying to be safe due to COVID-19, an outdoor celebration is the way to go. And even in February, a picnic is a fun way to connect with your gals. Just bring a waterproof tarp for under your picnic blanket, some cozy blankets to snuggle in, and a thermos of hot cocoa! For the best location, have your gal pals meet you in Columbia Heights at Meridian Hill Park. The historic park is known for its beautiful cascading fountains, and you can read about more notable park features on its website before you go.
Kraken Axes & Rage
If your friends aren’t content to just sit around and chat, you’re going to want an activity to get everyone moving. Why not blow off some steam with axe throwing? At Kraken Axes, you can free throw in public lanes or go into private rage rooms to really “unleash your inner Kraken.” They have open space for your party to gather and a nice selection of beer, wine, and cider. You can also rest assured that the staff is taking plenty of COVID-19 precautions to keep you and your gal pals safe.
If you want something unique to do for Galentine’s Day, how about getting in touch with your creative side? Derrick’s Paintbrush is a paint and sip where you and your friends can drink and socialize while you’re walked through painting your own personal masterpiece! The studio is taking COVID-19 precautions like wiping down all work areas and supplies in between guests and you can also book a private party. They’ll provide the supplies and the instruction; you bring snacks and whatever you want to drink.
