Valentine’s Day is coming up next month, but roses, chocolate, and Hallmark cards aren’t for everyone. If you’d rather round up your best gal pals and celebrate the joys of female friendship on Galentine’s Day, read on, because we’ve rounded up five fun ways to celebrate with your girls this year in Baltimore!
If you and your gals want something tried and true, a classic way to spend the evening is dinner and drinks at Woodberry Kitchen, owned by Baltimore’s only James Beard award-winning chef, Spike Gjerde. Located in a renovated 1870s mill, and keeping up that rustic chic vibe, the restaurant serves up plant-based farm-to-table fare. Due to COVID-19, you can’t currently eat at the restaurant, but you can order online and then head next door to Druid Hill Park to dig into your meal. Afterward, walk off the calories with a lovely stroll around the 745-acre park to view the lake and the pavilions.
If you’re looking for a more mom and pop style place to eat, try the Café Gia, which is owned and run by a mother and daughter team. The colorful building is covered in string lights and colorful murals, transporting you to a bistro in Sicily! Nestled in the heart of Baltimore’s Little Italy, the café has indoor and outdoor dining as well as carryout. After your meal, go next door to their bar, Pane e Vino, for a nightcap.
Federal Hill Park
If you’re trying to be safe due to COVID-19, an outdoor celebration is the way to go. And even in February, a picnic is a fun way to connect with your gals! Just bring a waterproof tarp for under your picnic blanket, some cozy blankets to snuggle in, and a thermos of hot cocoa. The best local spot for your Galentine’s picnic is Federal Hill Park due to the lovely views of the harbor and Baltimore skyline. This historical spot is just a short walk from downtown.
The Rage Room
If your friends aren’t content to just sit around and chat, you’re going to want an activity to get everyone moving. And if enough of you in the group are single and sick of all the PDA you have to see around Valentine’s Day, you should head to the Rage Room and let all that angst and frustration out. Basically, you go and get to break stuff for an allotted time! They have lots of different packages here. Just tell everyone in your group to wear closed-toed shoes.
Illusions Bar & Theatre
Want to do something really unique with your gal pals? Book a custom virtual magic show at Illusions Bar and Theater to “keep your quarantine enchanted.” Owned by a husband-and-wife team, the Illusion Bar is bringing their exciting magic right to the comfort of your living room. So, set some mood lighting, open a bottle of wine, and fire up a laptop for an unforgettable Galentine’s Day!
