If you’re traveling to Baltimore this holiday season, we’ve compiled a few local stores you absolutely must check out for your holiday gift needs. You’ll get to explore a new place, avoid the online shopping shipping wait, and best yet -by shopping small you’ll be supporting the local economy and small business owners!

The National Aquarium

Located right on the harbor in Downtown Baltimore, The National Aquarium has an extensive gift shop with a range of lovely home goods for adults and fun gifts and toys for kids. You can also gift a membership, day passes, or make a donation in a loved one’s name. Your purchase at The National Aquarium will help support the institution’s important mission of inspiring conservation of the world’s aquatic treasures which they enact by combating climate change, saving wildlife and their habitats, and stopping plastic pollution.

The Dollhouse Boutique

Shopping for a fashionista? Then you’d better pay a visit to The Dollhouse Boutique. This Black woman-owned business offers “one-of-a-kind designs in couture and casual styles” so that women can keep playing dress up, no matter what their age. If you’re feeling a little intimidated by the offerings and don’t know what to pick, you can also gift a one-hour consultation with owner and designer Natalie Karyl. During the meeting, she’ll go through all sorts of tips from fashion and styling to business and networking, so that that special someone on your list can “upgrade [their] style & boss babe game!”

Natasha’s Just Brittle

Need some gifts that satisfy a powerful sweet tooth? Natasha’s Just Brittle, another woman and Black-owned business, has gourmet popcorn, cookies, toffee, chocolates, and -you guessed it- brittles. And for a more creative gift idea, the store has also offered classes through Eventbrite (these may not be offered currently due to COVID-19).
