Valentine’s Day is coming up next month, but roses, chocolate, and Hallmark cards aren’t for everyone. If you’d rather round up your best gal pals and celebrate the joys of female friendship on Galentine’s Day, read on, because we’ve rounded up five fun ways to celebrate with your girls this year in Birmingham!
Highlands Bar and Grill
If you and your gals want to be fancy, a classic way to spend the evening is dinner and drinks at the best restaurant in town, and for Birmingham, that is arguably Highlands Bar and Grill. The restaurant’s menu is constantly changing to best feature local, seasonal produce, and meat. And their food has been recognized -in 2018, they won the James Beard Award for the most outstanding restaurant in America and their pastry chef, Dolester Miles, won the award for outstanding pastry chef. As of the time of this writing, it is temporarily closed to comply with state COVID-19 regulations (like many restaurants), but they offered take-out meals for Christmas Eve and New Year’s, so if the restaurant remains closed, you may be able to get some food to go on Valentine’s Day as well!
Pop’s Neighborhood Grill
If you’re looking for a more relaxed, mom-and-pop style place to eat, you’re going to want to go to Pop’s Neighborhood Grill. This classic diner is the perfect place to meet your gals for a delicious brunch of tried-and-true favorites like breakfast sandwiches, breakfast biscuits, omelets, and pancakes. Can someone please pass the orange juice?
Birmingham Botanical Gardens
If you’re trying to be safe due to COVID-19, an outdoor celebration is the way to go. And even in February, a picnic is a fun way to connect with your gals! Just bring a waterproof tarp for under your picnic blanket, some cozy blankets to snuggle in, and a thermos of hot cocoa! The best local spot for your Galentine’s picnic is the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. Not only is the admission free, but the grounds are a lovely place for a stroll after you’re done eating.
Steel City Jump
If your friends aren’t content to just sit around and chat, you’re going to want an activity to get everyone moving. One that will have everyone giggling and having a great time is family-owned Steel City Jump. This trampoline park has lots of places to bounce, play dodgeball and basketball, and an upstairs lounge for when everyone needs a break from breaking a sweat. Trampoline parks are quite a cardio work out, but your heart is supposed to be aflutter on Valentine’s Day, right?
Maybe you’re looking to go somewhere a little different to celebrate Galentine’s Day? Try Queen’s Park, a cocktail bar with unique décor, a chill vibe, and special craft cocktails served up in funky cups and glassware. While the bar is currently taking lots of social distancing precautions, if you want the unique drinks with less risk, they also offer private event catering.
