What to Do at the Zoo in Birmingham, Alabama

If you’re looking for a fun-filled adventure, look no further than the Birmingham Zoo. Admission to the zoo is $17.95 for adults, $14.95 for seniors, and $12.95 for children 2-12 years of age. All children 2 and under are free! If you’d like to become a member of the zoo, an Individual membership can be purchased for $60. A Companion membership (2 adults) is $90. Family membership (2 adults and 6 children between the ages of 2-17) is $140, and the Family PLUS membership (2 adults and 6 children between the ages of 2-17 and no limit to any rides as long as the zoo is open) for $295.

Zookeeper for a Day is an exciting opportunity for both children and adults alike to learn by having hands on experience interacting with zoo animals! You will learn how to prepare food and work with a keeper in order to better serve the animals of the Birmingham Zoo. You must book the Zookeeper for a Day at least 3 weeks in advance, as dates are limited. This program is only for one participate per program per day.

If you love animals, then consider “adopting” one! With their Adopt-an-Animal program, your donated money will help a specific animal at the zoo and will help to provide food, care, and shelter for your animal. This adoption is only symbolic; you will not own it. This opportunity can be for yourself or given as a gift, that a loved one may know an animal at the zoo is being fed in their name. All animal adopters will get a certificate, photos, and a fact sheet about their animal. Fees are as follows: ‘Go Green’ 100$ online – $25. ‘Animal Supporters’ pay $50 and get a free plushy. ‘Animal Advocate’ is $100 and you get a free plushy and an Adopt Party Invite. Animal Keeper is $250 and gets a free plushy and an Adopt Party Invite. The ‘Animal Ambassador’ is $500, gets the free plushy, the Adopt Party Invite, and also gets to chat with a zookeeper with up to 4 people.

If you love to shop, there are several stores throughout the zoo to purchase your one-of-a-kind merchandise. From plush animal toys to clothing to books to water bottles, the Birmingham Zoo has what you’re looking for. Stop by the Zoo Gift Shop for some amazing apparel, keepsakes, and eco-friendly products that will always remind you of your time at the zoo. The Lorikeet Aviari Tiki Hut is also another fantastic shop that specializes in amazing bird-related items and souvenirs that can be found nowhere else in the zoo. Finally, the Giraffe Encounter Outpost is an eclectic little shop located at the Kiwanis Giraffe Encounter. This shop sells African-themed items also found nowhere else at the zoo. If you’re hungry, come on down to Wild Burger, an African-themed safari where dining is outdoors and burgers and chicken tenders abound. You’ll also find salads and gluten free options on their menu as well.
