Valentine’s Day is coming up next month, but roses, chocolate, and Hallmark cards aren’t for everyone. If you’d rather round up your best gal pals and celebrate the joys of female friendship on Galentine’s Day, read on, because we’ve rounded up five fun ways to celebrate with your girls this year in Houston!
The Original Ninfa’s
A classic way to celebrate Galentine’s with your friends is dinner and drinks at a famous restaurant. One of the more accoladed restaurants in Houston is The Original Ninfa’s, which was a James Beard semifinalist last year for Best Restaurant. The restaurant was started by Mama Ninfa, who took the restaurant world by storm by popularizing fajitas! Ninfa’s has now been in business for 50 years and is still serving up amazing fajitas and other Tex-Mex cuisine. So, make a reservation and tell the gals you’re celebrating the holiday in true Texas style!
If you’re looking for a more mom-and-pop type restaurant, Café Lili is the place to go. This Lebanese and Middle Eastern restaurant was established by the Bejjani family, and remains family-owned and operated. It’s even been featured by Guy Fieri on his show, Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives! You and your friends are sure to enjoy the casual setting, friendly service, and attention to detail.
If you’re trying to be safe due to COVID-19, an outdoor celebration is the way to go. And in Texas, even in February, a picnic is a fun way to connect with your gals. For the best location, have your gal pals meet you at Discovery Green, an urban park that’s conveniently located right downtown. If you don’t feel like prepping the picnic lunch yourself, there are several great restaurants bordering the park offering takeout -including The Grove, which is in the park itself and offers a rustic menu perfect for picnicking.
If your friends aren’t content to just sit around and chat, you’re going to want an activity to get everyone moving. How about renting a party bike? With Pedal Party, you and your friends can drink and barhop while you’re pedaling a giant bike and taking in the fresh air. The company will provide you with a driver to steer and has several pre-selected routes. All you need to do is bring snacks and beverages (no glass allowed), a fun attitude, and calves and quads that are ready to put in a little work! A private party booking is for up to 16 people.
If you want something unique to do, head to Pinot’s Pallet, where you and your friends can create masterpieces while sipping wine! All you have to do is book a private party and BYOB and the staff will take care of the rest, from the painting supplies to walking you through the process with instructions. If you prefer social distancing, they’re hosting a live virtual event on February 13th where you and the gals can learn to paint a cute Snoopy-themed Valentine!
