Planning a trip can be both exciting and stressful. There are a lot of moving parts to consider: plane tickets, accommodations, and what to actually do once you get there. We’ve done some research to help you plan your vacation to Houston, Texas. Let’s take a look at the top five things for tourists to do in the area. 

1. NASA Johnson Space Center 

We’re all familiar with the expression, “Houston, we have a problem.” Houston has a long-standing relationship with space travel and exploration. If you’re into all things space, NASA Johnson Space Center is the perfect stop on your trip. There are a lot of activities to choose from. Catch a live presentation or watch a short film, take a tram tour to visit the Mission Control Center or Astronaut Training Center, or simply take your time and visit one of the many on-site exhibits. There’s something for everyone to enjoy here. 

2. The Houston Museum District 

If you’re into history, Houston is home to an expansive museum district. Located about four miles from downtown, the Museum District boasts nineteen different museums and ten of the nineteen offer free admission. The museums are into four walkable zones making it easy to get the most out of your experience. Whether you’re into art, health, or science, you’re sure to find a museum that excites you. 

3. Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo 

Do you want to see how the cowboys live? Experience the Houston Livestock Show and Radio like a true Texan. This is the perfect excuse to don that western gear you’ve been saving for a special occasion. Visitors are treated to rodeo competitions that include barrel racing, bull riding, and more. At the Livestock Show you’ll witness everything from horse shows to livestock auctions. Be sure to check the schedule of events; musical performances are a big deal here as well. The venue has been graced with the likes of Garth Brooks and June Carter Cash. You never know who will be there when you go.

4. Minute Maid Park 

Beat the heat with a visit to Minute Maid Park, home of the Houston Astros. In the summertime, this air conditioned stadium is the place to be for a night of baseball and fun. The stadium’s unique feature is a replica of a 19th century train along the west side of the ballpark. Kids and adults alike are delighted when the train lights up and makes sounds as the team takes the field, when the Astros score a home run, and when the home team wins the game. You won’t have to worry about going hungry while you’re there. You’ll find the concession stand full of the usual suspects such as hot dogs, wings, or nachos, but you can also choose less traditional eats like Texas barbecue, Mexican delights, or keep it healthy with a salad. For the super hot days, cool off with some ice cream from one of the many vendors available. 

5. The Galleria 

If you prefer to be indoors and shopping is your thing, you can’t visit Houston without a trip to the Galleria. Home to luxury brands like Louis Vuitton and Chanel, the Galleria boast a whopping 400 stores and restaurants. There’s also a full size ice skating rink located inside. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes, you’ll be doing a lot of walking. The Galleria is truly the place to shop until you drop.

Houston, Texas, is a wonderful getaway, whether you’re taking a weekend trip or staying a bit longer. With a variety of activities around the popular city, there’s plenty to do and see. Culinary delights are plenty with a variety of different cuisines to try. Spend your days museum hopping, shopping, or simply relaxing in a park. No matter what you choose to do, your trip is sure to be one to remember.
