Houston is undoubtedly a wonderful city, its diversity and good weather make it not only a great place to live but to visit also. However, just because the winter comes and the weather is not quite so bright, that doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty to do outdoors still. So, let’s take a look below at some of the top things to do near Houston TX in the winter.

We can’t have a list of winter activities and not include ice skating! This classic fun day out can be had at various places in and around the city so you’ve got plenty of choices on hand. Head to Discovery Green, Memorial City Mall, or Galleria Ice Skating to have some old school winter fun.

Just because the weather is more on the chilly side that doesn’t mean hikes are off the table. In fact, what better way to warm up than by getting your blood racing on a power walk in the open air, if anything walking in the winter in Houston is far more doable than in the summer. Terry Hershey Hike Trail or Trail Head Memorial Park are a couple of great examples.

If you want to do a winter activity and get in the festive mood at the same time, then Bayou Bend is a great option for you. Every year they set up a Christmas Village where people of all ages can go and experience some top quality Christmas fun from listening to Carol singers, drinking hot chocolate, buying Christmas gifts, taking in the abundance of lights and decorations, and even joining in various Christmas crafting activities. This Christmas Village is a little piece of festive heaven in Houston and it is easy to see why it is so popular each year.

While it’s great to spend time outside, sometimes, in the winter it’s nice to get outside your house without actually having to be in the outdoors. Museums are perfect for those cold winter days when you want something to do but can’t bear the thought of being outside for too long. Houston has a great selection of museums; the Houston Museum of Natural Science and the Museum of Fine Art to name just two.

In and around the city there are various theatres and music halls, for example, the Hobby Center. Here, you can watch shows, Christmas-related and non-Christmas related, or catch some live music, one of which that is particularly noteworthy is the Houston Symphony which plays shows every year during the winter.

The weather becoming colder doesn’t mean you have to resign yourself to staying inside, as cozy as it can be putting on your slippers and making a hot chocolate in bed, it’s still a great idea to get out and take part in a few activities. There are a lot of fun things to do near Houston in the winter, so you can go and do your favorites.
