Ebikes, also known as electric bikes, are a great way to see the sights in New York City. An ebike is a bicycle with a small motor that assists the rider while pedaling. This means your ride will be both exciting and effortless. If you’re looking for something new to do in the city, you might consider renting one. The state of New York classifies ebikes in the same way as a normal bike, meaning they can go anywhere a regular bicycle can go, including city streets and bike paths. However, children 14 years and younger must wear a bike helmet at all times.
If you’re in the Hudson Yards area of New York City, here are a couple of options where to rent your ebike. First, you might consider Citi Bike, NYC’s bikeshare program. Citi Bike has an app for download and you can buy either an annual pass or a day pass if you like. Once you have your pass, you can access any of their kiosk stations and rent your ebike with a special code. You can ride for as long as your pass permits and return your ebike to any available station around the city, you don’t have to return it to the same station. This is one of the fastest and easiest ways to rent an ebike in NYC. Citi Bike stations closest to Hudson Yards are located at W 30th St. and 10th Ave, or W 34th St. and 11th Ave.
If you’d like to rent from a bike shop, we recommend Hudson Ebike located on Hudson Street. This shop takes appointments for ebike rentals either online or by phone and will be more than happy to sell you your ebike if you so choose. They have a try-before-you-buy policy, with no commitment at all! Simply return the ebike if you are unsatisfied for any reason. If you’d like to purchase an ebike, this is a fantastic option.
One of the best places to ride in the area would be the Hudson River Greenway. This trail is quite popular with joggers, riders, and pedestrians. It runs through many parks near the Hudson River giving riders lovely views of both the river and the city. All told, this trail is 12.9 miles of paved bike path and is perfect for that afternoon ride.
Another great trail around New York City would be the Hudson River Park. This trail is exclusively for bicycles, skateboards, and rollerbladers, however when the path crosses a pedestrian walkway or esplanade, all riders must dismount and walk their ebikes until the trail starts up again.
On your next stay in New York City, consider renting an ebike and doing something new. See the city like you never have before and enjoy the smooth ride!
