Spending a day out with the kids is a great way to recapture your own childlike curiosity and love of play, so we’ve included plenty of options that will make the adults as happy as the kids. Below are some of the best, most unique, and most beloved things to do with your kids in Arlington.

Great Waves Waterpark

Waterparks are always a family favorite, and Great Waves Waterpark certainly delivers all you’d want for an exciting day under the sun and at the pool. With several attractions to choose from, there is something for everyone, no matter their age. The younger kids will love the Kids Zone and the Splash Pad, while older kids will have a blast racing down five different water slides. Great Waves also has a giant wave pool and two places to enjoy a snack after swimming – Surfside Pizza & Soft Serve and the Riptide Café.

Frying Pan Farm Park

South of Columbus you and the kids can journey back in time to the 1920s and learn about farm life from the 1920s-1950s. There are gardens, barns, an equestrian facility, and a schoolhouse from 1876, plus much more. Farm tours are available, or you can choose to go for a beautiful hike on one of the many trails surrounding the farm, ride the carousel, take a wagon ride, or even visit during the 4-H Fair and Carnival. Frying Pan Farm Park is a charming place to spend the day with the kids.

Smithsonian’s National Zoo

A trip to the zoo is always a family favorite, and just Northeast of Arlington, in nearby Washington, D.C. is one of the country’s best zoos. Travel the Asia Trail, pop over to Amazonia, see primates, reptiles, and follow the Elephant Trail; you’ll see amazing animals from all over the world. Kids will especially love the Kid’s Farm, the “Me and the Bee Playground”, and the Carousel. You can choose to wander the zoo yourselves, take a guided tour, or visit during one of the many events held at the Zoo. But no matter which adventure you choose, the kids are sure to have fun while learning about the world around them.

Mosaic Park

Mosaic Park is one of Arlington’s most beloved parks. Families, couples, and friends can often be seen picnicking and relaxing on the large lawn area of the park. But it is also a great place to take the kids, because of the play areas. The playground has everything you could want – huge slides, swings, plenty of equipment to climb, a rain garden, and a colorful climbing wall. The best part is that the playground is located in one of the greatest parks to have a family picnic.
