If you’re looking for your next great family adventure, or someplace different to take the kids, we have you covered. Spending a day out with the kids is a great way to recapture your own childlike curiosity and love of play, so we’ve included plenty of options that will make the adults as happy as the kids. Below are some of the best, most unique, and most beloved things to do with your kids in Columbus.

Olentangy Indian Caverns

A fabulous place for exploration just North of Columbus. The Caverns were formed millions of years ago by an underground river that cut through the solid limestone rock. Hundreds of years ago they were used by the Native American tribe, the Wyandot. They were used as a safe haven and a place for tribal ceremonies. Today, guests can take self-guided tours through the tunnels and caves, learning about their history and marveling at the many artifacts found inside the caverns. Olentangy Indian Caverns also offers several activities, including a Petting Zoo, Treasure Hunt Maze, Gem Mining, and Mini Golf.

Slate Run Living Historical Farm

South of Columbus you and the kids can journey back in time to the 1880s and learn about early Ohio farm-life. There are gardens, barns, and a beautiful farmhouse originally built in 1856. The staff of Slate Run Historical Farm are costumed in traditional apparel from the time period and conduct their chores using 19th-century equipment and methods. There are also many animals to befriend. Farm tours are available, or you can choose to go for a beautiful hike on one of the many trails surrounding the farm.

Ninja Citi

An amusement park perfect for both the kids and the parents. At Ninja Citi you can embrace your inner ninja warrior with several obstacle course (or “ninja courses”), rock walls, a parkour arena, and trampolines where you can play both basketball and dodgeball. A visit to Ninja Citi is a fabulous combination of adventurous playtime and exercise. The amusement park even has an arcade for a fun break from working hard as a ninja.

Graeter’s Scoops and Shoots

A winning combination can be found at Graeter’s Ice Cream. It is both a beloved ice cream shop, with classic and unique flavors, and a dream playland for kids. They have giant slides, a crow’s nest shaped like a giant ice cream cone, and a basketball free throw area. You may choose to get a couple scoops first, then let your kids burn off all their sugar-rush energy or save the ice cream for a special treat after, but either way an afternoon of playground and ice cream fun is sure to make the kids happy.

Zoombezi Bay

Waterparks are always a family favorite, and Zoombezi Bay certainly delivers all you’d want for an exciting day under the sun and in the pool. In Baboon Lagoon, you and the kids can climb the giant playground, with slides, water features, and a large bucket of water that tips over every few minutes. Older kids will love the water slides (with huge drops!), the wave pool, and Roaring Rapids Action River.
