Jutting outwards into the city, the Denver Art Museum greets visitors with a striking visual introduction, courtesy of Gio Ponti. Here, you can walk among exhibits documenting the histories of Asian, British and Native American expression. The Denver Art Museum’s European collection includes the works of Monet, Cezanne, Renoir, Van Gogh and Boudin. However, it is Denver’s uniquely extensive relationship with Native American artwork that is the key attraction. The Denver Art Museum has one of the broadest collections of Native American art in the Nation, if not the world. This stems back to their pioneering activity, as one of the first museums to collect Native American artwork. Also featured is the startlingly lifelike work of John DeAndrea, a Colorado Native famed for his ability in lifelike human sculptures. Between modern Native American expressions, Old world tradition and local talents, the Denver Art Museum is a worthwhile stop.
