Just North of Houston is this wonderful 15-acre farm, plucked straight out of a children’s storybook. They have several attractions, including a petting zoo, train rides, pony rides, a large playground, and a pumpkin patch for finding the perfect Jack o Lantern. If you stop in the front store to grab a bag of feed, you’ll also have a wonderful opportunity to feeds the ducks on the Duck Pond (which also features Lucy the Emu). Old MacDonald’s Farm lives up to its name and is an utterly charming thing to do with the kids.
Express Children’s Theater
The Express Children’s Theater is the go-to spot for a fun night out with the kids. The live performances at Express Children’s Theater are always creative and often include music, new animal friends, and special holiday-themed shows. Several of the children’s shows also include puppets, which are sure to bring smiles to your little ones’ faces. Beyond performances, you can also sign your kids up for camps or workshops with the theater company.
Kemah Boardwalk is a 60-acre theme park along the Gulf Coast, just South of Houston. At Kemah Boardwalk, you and the kids can experience carnival amusements, thrill rides, and dozens of specialty food stands on a boardwalk built entirely on the shores of Clear Lake and Galveston Bay. The theme park is nothing but good times and is the perfect place for a special treat for the family. Even if you just stop into the arcade or try to win a prize at the carnival-style Midway Games, everyone is sure to have a great time!
A trip to the zoo is always a family favorite. Kids will love riding the carousel, climbing on the “Explore the Wild Nature Playscape”, or crossing the Adventure Bridge, in between visiting the animals. You can choose to wander the zoo yourselves, marveling at all the animals, or take part in one of several Animal Encounters, including sloth, gorilla, goat, or elephant encounters. Or you and the kids can combine your creative side with your animal-loving side by trying out the Sea Lion Painting Experience. But no matter which adventure you choose, the kids are sure to have fun while learning about the world around them.
