This energy is a year-round specialty of Oakland, and whether you may be a visitor, returnee, or local, you’ll be pleased to know it is indeed something quite visible in the events around here. Reinhardt Redwood Regional Park

If you’ll be here in the Bay Area, one of the things you absolutely cannot miss are the Coastal Redwoods. With some native populations within close reach of the metropolitan East Bay, Peninsula, and North Bay Areas. Here at Reinhardt Redwood Regional Park, visitors will delight in the lush, gentle landscape under these gentle giants on some forty miles of park trails. Aside from the trails, visitors can also enjoy picnicking, jogging, archery, horseback riding, and nature watching. Among these incredibly tall trees, visitors might doubt the clarity of the night sky from the ground, and while yes, these can make for a great photography subject, there is little reason to worry, thanks to the Chabot Observatory! The nearby Chabot Observatory is a great way for visitors to get amazing views of the skies over the Bay Area with the high-powered telescopes at the Chabot Space and Science Center, and of the skies over California. 

Temescal Regional Recreation Area

Visitors will delight in the variety of outdoors activities here at the Temescal Regional Recreation Area, including biking, fishing, hiking, picnicking, swimming and all the other events you and your party can bring to these spaces, such as reunions, soccer, and flag football. Here, those visitors coming to the Bay Area to reunite with large parties will find ample space to enjoy the outdoors and watch the stars over the Bay Area here at Temescal Regional Recreation Area. 

Joaquin Miller Park

This large open park features a variety of settings sure to inspire, great for both nature and wildlife photographers and those looking for verdant and wondrous backdrops. Here at Joaquin Miller Park, visitors will find enchanting forests, open fields, lush meadows, and a diversity in natural beauty native to California, including famous redwood groves! Aside from the photo opportunities galore, this is also a good hiking trip in itself, with some miles of winding trails through these famous redwoods. A number of camping sites are also in the vicinity, not too far from the rush of the East Bay, yet removed enough to allow for full immersion and ample stargazing.
