If you’re looking for your next great family adventure, or someplace different to take the kids, we have you covered. Spending a day out with the kids is a great way to recapture your own childlike curiosity and love of play, so we’ve included plenty of options that will make the adults as happy as the kids. Below are some of the best, most unique, and most beloved things to do with your kids in Houston.

Hurricane Harbor SplashTown

Waterparks are always a family favorite, and Hurricane Harbor SplashTown certainly delivers all you’d want for an exciting day under the sun and at the pool. With both Family Rides and Thrill Rides, there’s something for everyone. You and the family can wade along the lazy river or race down the Stingray Racer. Then, stop into the Tidal Wave Café for some much-earned food or treat yourself and the kids to Dippin’ Dots Ice Cream.

Children’s Museum of Houston

Located near the Houston Zoo and Museum of Natural Sciences (also great things to do with kids) is the Children’s Museum of Houston. The museum offers more than 20 interactive exhibits and special programs designed to help children grow and learn while having a wonderful time. Some of the popular exhibits are Kidtropolis (a city run by the kids), the Invention Convention and Inventor’s Workshop, the Secret Spy Game, and the Challenge Course. The really wonderful thing about the Children’s Museum of Houston is that they offer exhibits/learning in a wide variety of fields. There is something for kids who like science, math, physical activity, invention, and art.

The Chocolate Bar

Indulging in some sweets is always a fun thing to do with the kids. The Chocolate Bar in Houston’s motto is, “Let them eat chocolate!” They have specialty chocolates, cookies, ice cream, and cakes. The chocolate-covered pretzels are also a crowd pleaser and this sweets shop is located within walking distance of the zoo and museums, making it a great place to stop before or after visiting one of those beloved Houston destinations.

The Mad Potter

There are several Mad Potter locations in Houston and visiting any one of them is always a great idea when looking for something to do with the kids. The Mad Potter offers pottery of all kinds for you to paint/decorate and create a masterpiece. There are mugs, plates, and bowls, but the kids will especially love the Under the Sea collections of pottery or the dragons, dinosaurs, princesses, and sports-themed pieces.

Moody Gardens

Located just a bit outside of Houston is this wonderful attraction – perfect for anyone looking for an all-day activity with the kids. Moody Gardens is a theme park, offering several different attractions. They have a 15-million-gallon aquarium that features an underwater tunnel, a Discovery Museum, and thrilling 3D & 4D Theaters where you and the kids can be transported to another world.
