5 Fun Things to Do with Kids in Minneapolis/St Paul

If you’re looking for your next great family adventure, or someplace different to take the kids, we have you covered. Spending a day out with the kids is a great way to recapture your own childlike curiosity and love of play, so we’ve included plenty of options that will make the adults as happy as the kids. Below are some of the best, most unique, and most beloved things to do with your kids in Minneapolis and St Paul.

Minnehaha Regional Park

A 193-acre park along the Mississippi River, Minnehaha is a beloved Minnesota park, and its waterfall has even been celebrated in a Henry Wadsworth Longfellow poem. There are miles and miles of wooded trails through the park leading to dramatic waterfalls that cannot be missed. Bring some water shoes, so you can splash around beneath the waterfalls. The large rocks below the waterfall or the beach near the water are great places to picnic with the family. Wabun Picnic Area also has several picnic shelters, a playground, disc golf, and a wading area to cool down in the water.

Afton Apple Orchard

Why not spend a fun afternoon apple-picking with the kids? Afton Apple Orchard is a family-owned orchard with apples, strawberries, raspberries, pumpkins, and more. You can go just to pick fruit or the perfect pumpkin for Halloween, or you and the kids can enjoy Afton Orchard’s petting zoo, hayrides, playground, and 15-acre corn maze.

Crayola Experience

Located in the Mall of America is this colorful, child wonderland. There are more than 20 attractions located inside Crayola Experience, and it is one of those places that will surprise you with how much there is to do/enjoy. Try the Color Playground or have a dance party with “Cool Moves”. There is also several live shows each day, a “Melt & Mold” attraction where you can change your favorite crayon into a keepsake, an “Activity Studio”, and even more! Everyone will have fun and enjoy the opportunity to let their creative side take over.

Minnesota Children’s Museum

Located in St Paul is the Minnesota Children’s Museum. The Museum offers dozens of interactive exhibits and special programs designed to help children grow and learn while having a wonderful time. Some of the popular exhibits are “Our World” (a pretend town where kids get to be in charge), “The Studio” (where you can paint the next masterpiece), and “The Scramble” (a four-story climber and obstacle course). There is something for everyone at the Minnesota Children’s Museum and it is an especially great place for anyone with toddlers or younger kids.

Bunker Beach Water Park

Waterparks are always a family favorite, and Bunker Beach Water Park certainly delivers all you’d want for an exciting day under the sun and at the pool. With several attractions to choose from, there is something for everyone, no matter their age. The “Sandbox”, with play equipment and sand tables with running water, is great for younger kids. And older kids will love “Twisted Towers and Splash Cove” with its six waterslides. There is also a wave pool and lazy river, as well as water basketball and an adventure pool.
