Year-round, with the growth of the area, the parties and celebrations here only grow more numerous and broader in attendance, there’s something here for everyone. Read on for some of our favorite autumn festivals and events around Minneapolis-St.Paul.

Twin Cities Oktoberfest

This grand celebration owes to the Upper Midwest’s strong roots in Northern and Central Europe, but is an event where people of all backgrounds come together to enjoy food, drink, music, games, and a good time! If you’re looking for an event to feed and entertain a group, this is a great option to easily fill the day with Bavarian festivities. Sip on local and imported brews while enjoying a feast of smoked trout, bratwurst, mettwurst, schnitzel, braised pork knuckle, pretzels, and endless pastries. Polka, chicken dances, and local bands take the stage, and visitors can participate in fun oddities such as stein carrying contests and hot dog contests. Of course, there’s always the option to just dress up and enjoy the atmosphere.

Hmong New Year

A lesser known fact about the Twin Cities is that it is an increasingly diverse area, with one of the highest populations of Hmong Americans in the nation. With this comes the storied traditions of the Hmong New Year, which comes in autumn, unlike other New Year’s you might be familiar with. The many Hmong New Year celebrations around the city are a great way to celebrate and learn about Hmong culture and tradition while embracing Minneapolis’ strong sense of community. Enjoy delicious purple sticky rice, larb and papaya salad while watching dance and live music or shop vendors for crafts and clothing. This is a great option for visitors of all ages due to the family atmosphere.

The roster of local vendors, games, and restaurants attending the event changes with each year, adding variety. This is a great option to sample local produce, experience the outdoors of Minnesota, and will satisfy large parties, couples, or green visitors.
